How to catch up on the MCU
You don't need all 83.1 hours. You need an honest plan: one fix, two fast paths, and a calendar that survives your actual week.
The MCU catch-up question is never "which order?" — every listicle agrees it is release order. The real question is arithmetic: there are 38 films on the released road, and every reader has a fixed number of evenings. So this guide is built backwards from your calendar, not from the studio's timeline.
Step 1 — declare an honest anchor
On the MCU watch order tracker, use the bulk import: "I've seen everything before [title]". Most rewatches die at hour three because the plan pretended the viewer started from zero. Anchor first, then the remaining hours are real.
Step 2 — know the one fix that matters
Release order works for this universe, with a few loudly labelled moves. Black Widow ships after Endgame (2021) but its story sits right after Civil War — the roadmap keeps its release slot and marks a stop point before its post-credits scene, which belongs to a later show. Ant-Man and the Wasp is the opposite case: its post-credits scene is the setup of Endgame, so it is marked unskippable. In the current era the credits matter again: Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps both end with scenes that set the table for Avengers: Doomsday, while Quantumania's tag points at a plan Marvel has since scrapped — the tracker flags all three.
Step 3 — if the maths fails, cut in this order
At 6 hours a week the full road takes about fourteen weeks. If your deadline says that's impossible: first drop the optional titles (Eternals, Love and Thunder, Quantumania, Brave New World, The Marvels, Ant-Man, Black Widow — saves ~14.6 hours without breaking a single payoff). Still short? Take the required-only path of 20 films. The tracker's planner shows both alternatives side by side with finish dates, and exports the winning week-by-week plan to your calendar as a file.
Step 4 — protect the reveals
Two rules: watch in release order (the reveals were engineered for it), and never watch a post-credits scene out of turn. Everything else is negotiable — the saga survives a skipped optional film; it does not survive Infinity War before Winter Soldier.
Next: open the MCU tracker and check off what you've already seen — the planner turns your remaining hours into dated weeks. Verdict criteria: methodology. Series-adjacent skips: which Spider-Man movies to skip.
